The Guided missile escort ship Brooke was designed to protect amphibious forces, patrol coastal waters, and defend military convoys from hostile submarines. She was the first of a new class of escort ships at the time having an anti air capability provided by Tartar guided missiles. She carried ASROC anti sub rockets, anti sub torpedoes and a 5 inch gun. Equipped with sonar, she was also
