I was made from one of the silver bars or ingots recovered from the wreck

retains a good deal of the original black enamel - we've never handled an example of this kind with the enamel intact

some light wear to the stone and fine gold patina

but it was Ovid who really fleshed out the story - in the Metamorphoses - where he describes Medusa in her youth:
