Georgian Onyx "Demeter" Cameo Brooch navette Natural EmeraldDATE: Georgian, c. 1820 An exceptional onyx cameo brooch dating from the late Georgian era, circa 1820. The subject is a Demeter in profile, white against a black background, with excellent attention to detail. The cameo is set into a 15k gold frame which is itself worth of note, on account of the gorgeous rope twist goldwork. Demeter is the goddess of the harvest and presides over grains and the fertility of the earth. Although she was most often
